The first "Gulnare" was a schooner of 146 tons was (according to a hundred year old edition of the Quebec Gazette) built at the Quebec port in 1928 specially for Bayfield and his service. (from Jan 1929 The Canadian Surveyor).

There have been several "Gulnares" since that time.
